The ancient city of Kano awoke Thursday morning to find presidential campaign posters of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan prominently displayed at major roundabouts across the state.
The posters, bearing the message, “Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for President, 2027. He is our Messiah,” surprised many residents, as the individuals or groups behind them and their motives remain unknown, especially since it has been just a year into the Tinubu administration.
While it has become common for Nigerians, especially in Kano, to reflect on and commend the perceived achievements of Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, the sudden appearance of his campaign posters marks a new political twist. Despite Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan, repeatedly denying any interest in a presidential bid, this development raises questions about his political intentions.
The unexpected display of these posters across Kano might shift the narrative, leaving the public to speculate. Only time will reveal whether this is a prelude to a political move or mere conjecture.
