FG Warns Christian Pilgrims Against Absconding, Threatens Guarantors

The Federal Government has cautioned Christians embarking on the pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan, which commenced on Sunday, against absconding, warning of consequences for both them and their guarantors.

While President Bola Tinubu urged the pilgrims to return to Nigeria at the end of the exercise, saying, “There is no place like home,” the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian  Pilgrims Commission, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, warned that anyone who absconded and their guarantors would be named and shamed by publishing their names in the newspapers.

The President’s advice and the NCPC helmsman’s warning come amid the ongoing trend of Nigerians migrating abroad in pursuit of better opportunities.

In a post on X on Monday, the NCPC Head of Media and Public Relations, Celestine Toruka, disclosed that President Tinubu launched the 2024 Christian pilgrimage to Israel and Jordan on Sunday. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, Tinubu inaugurated the airlift of pilgrims at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The President encouraged the pilgrims to view the journey as an opportunity to strengthen their faith in God.
