2025 A Year Of Hope And Progress- Okpoye Assures Ijaw Oil Communities

In a New Year message on Monday, Hon. Spencer O. Okpoye, Commissioner representing the Ijaw Ethnic Nationality on the board of DESOPADEC, expressed gratitude to Ijaw communities for their resilience and unity throughout 2024.

Recognising the challenges of the past year, he highlighted the collective strength that has positioned the oil communities for a brighter future.

Hon. Okpoye reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Ijaw communities receive their fair share of development through DESOPADEC initiatives. He emphasised a focus on education, healthcare, infrastructure, and youth and women empowerment as key priorities for 2025.

He underscored the importance of sustainable development that benefits not only the present generation but also future ones.

Okpoye said, “As we step into the dawn of a new year, I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for your resilience, hard work, and uncompromising commitment to the progress of our beloved Ijaw communities. 2024 has been a year filled with challenges, but it was also a year of remarkable strength and unity. I believe that, together, we can build a brighter and more prosperous future for our people.

“The year ahead, 2025, is a year of hope, opportunity, and progress. As your representative on the board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), I want to assure you that I remain committed to ensuring that our communities receive their rightful share of development, empowerment, and opportunities. We understand the vital role that oil and gas play in our region’s economy, and we are equally aware of the need for sustainable development that benefits not only today’s generation but future ones as well.

“In 2025, DESOPADEC will continue to prioritize projects that address the critical needs of our people—education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social welfare. We are dedicated to empowering our youth, providing better opportunities for our women, and creating an environment that supports the growth of businesses within our communities. Our natural resources should not only fuel national growth, but also be a source of lasting benefit for us all.

“I encourage you all to continue working together in unity and collaboration. Let us put aside any differences and focus on the common goal of elevating our communities. The progress we seek can only be achieved when we stand united and work hand in hand with the Commission to actualize our dreams.

“As we embrace this new year, let us also reflect on the journey so far and reaffirm our commitment to improving the well-being of our people. I am confident that, with the support of every Ijaw man and woman, we will make 2025 a year of unparalleled progress, prosperity, and lasting change.

“May the coming new year bring you peace, good health, and an abundance of blessings. Together, we will continue to chart a path towards a brighter tomorrow.
