Senate President Akpabio Explains PDP to APC Defection
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed the reason behind his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Akpabio, his move to the APC aims to ensure the ruling party secures all South-South states before the 2027 elections.
He made this statement while hosting Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo at his Uyo residence, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. In a release by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Anietie Ekong, Akpabio emphasized that gaining control of these states would significantly enhance the developmental trajectory of the South-South region.
He said: “Under the APC administration, many of us decided there was need for us to change the political basket to enable us to represent our people at the national level and also have a say in what was going on in the country.
“So, when I made that strong movement to the APC, it was to move our people in the South South region to the centre.
“With the current political permutations, going by all available indices, the ruling APC is poised to bring more states into its fold.”
