Amorim Acknowledges Relegation Fears for United
Ruben Amorim has admitted that Manchester United are embroiled in a relegation battle, a stark reality underscored by their looming clash with Premier League leaders Liverpool.
The beleaguered manager will find little solace as Liverpool, in red-hot form, aim to extend their dominance at the summit.
Meanwhile, Manchester City’s faltering season hinges on Erling Haaland regaining his scoring touch, while Chris Wood has become a surprise talisman for Nottingham Forest’s push for a top-four finish.
Amorim’s candid remarks highlighted the daunting challenges he faces after replacing Erik ten Hag in November. United’s 14th-place standing, only seven points clear of the drop zone, reflects a dismal campaign that includes Monday’s 2-0 loss to Newcastle—their fifth league defeat in December 2024, a feat unseen since 1962.
Adding to their woes, United travel to Liverpool on a run of four consecutive defeats, with six losses in their last eight games. With Liverpool sitting six points clear at the top and boasting 23 wins from 27 matches, United fans dread a repeat of their infamous 7-0 defeat at Anfield in 2023.
Amorim insists he can turn the tide eventually, saying: “I know it will take a lot of hard work from everyone to get there, but I am very excited about where we can go together in 2025.”
