Oil marketers aim to begin lifting Premium Motor Spirit from the Warri Refinery, which has a capacity of 125,000 barrels per day, by February 2025.
Meanwhile, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has confirmed that its members have already commenced lifting automotive gas oil (diesel) and kerosene.
Harry Okenini, Chairman of IPMAN’s Delta State chapter, made this known during the weekend while commenting on the refinery’s operational status. He noted that the facility is currently partially operational.
“For now, only the automotive gas oil, popularly called diesel, and dual-purpose kerosene are being produced and loaded out for consumption.
“Hopefully, by February, we are expecting cooking gas, PMS, and other products to come out.
As of now, the retail unit is only loading AGO and DPK,” he added.
Similarly, the National Chairman of the Surface Tank and Kerosene Peddlers, a branch of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, Israel Omokere, stated that the refinery was in operation.
“Hopefully the PMS will come on board. We are loading kerosene and AGO for now.”
DAILY POST reports that on December 30, 2024, Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, announced that the Warri Refinery had commenced operations.
However, Kyari clarified that the refinery is not yet fully operational.
Industry sources revealed that only one of the refinery’s three units is currently functional, producing diesel, gas, and kerosene.
Earlier, Waffi TV also reported that the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) urged the Nigerian government to sell the Warri and Kaduna refineries to ensure more efficient management.
