The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has announced that corps members across Nigeria will soon receive a monthly allowance of ₦77,000.
This was disclosed by NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, on Tuesday in Abuja, as stated by NYSC spokesperson Caroline Embu.
Brigadier General Ahmed emphasized his administration’s commitment to the welfare of corps members and confirmed that arrangements for the new allowance have been finalized.
The increase in corps members’ monthly allowance follows the July 2024 review of Nigeria’s minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000.
Previously, in 2020, the NYSC raised the allowance from ₦19,800 to ₦33,000 after a minimum wage adjustment to ₦30,000. The recent hike in the minimum wage was signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024, concluding prolonged discussions between the government, labor unions, and the private sector.
