The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has refuted claims of a national grid collapse on Saturday, describing the reports as inaccurate.
In a statement issued in Abuja, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Mrs. Ndidi Mbah, clarified that at about 1:41 p.m. on Saturday, the Osogbo-Ihovour line tripped, followed by the Benin-Omotosho line. These incidents, she noted, only disrupted bulk power supply to the Lagos area.
Mbah further explained that before the tripping, the grid’s total generation stood at 4,335.63 Megawatts (MW). Following the incidents, generation reduced to 2,573.23 MW, confirming that the grid did not collapse.
“The transmission line tripping affected Egbin, Olorunsogo, Omotosho, Geregu, and Paras,”
She noted that all issues had been resolved, except for the Benin-Omotosho 330kV line, which was still under repair.
Mbah highlighted TCN’s commitment to strengthening the transmission grid despite existing challenges.
She also cautioned against the spread of misinformation, underscoring the need to share only accurate and verified information.
