All Exams In Nigeria ’ll Be 100% CBT By 2027- FG

The Federal Government aims to fully transition its examination system to computer-based testing (CBT) by 2027.

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced this on Thursday in Abuja during the inauguration of the Committee on Improvement of Quality Examinations in Nigeria. He stated that the committee is responsible for addressing major challenges in the education sector, standardizing examination practices, and ensuring fairness and quality.

Alausa reaffirmed the government’s commitment to curbing widespread examination malpractices and improving the overall quality of educational assessments in the country.

He noted that addressing examination leakages requires a comprehensive approach, as students are not the sole perpetrators of malpractice.

The minister highlighted the role of parents, who often encourage their wards, as well as teachers, school principals, and examination supervisors in contributing to the growing issue of exam malpractice in Nigeria.

“So, we’re planning that by 2027, all our exams will be computer-based. We will work so hard to ensure that that happens. We have to use technology to help our endeavour.

“The committee will also be working with local swapping of candidates.

“There are multiple participants in exam practices. From the student to parents, teachers, principals, to even people regulating and supervising exam conduct.

“During this change, a lot of areas of compromises will happen. There will be people investigating and regulating the exams,” he said.

Alausa highlighted several objectives for the newly established committee, including eradicating examination leakages, tackling identity theft in exams, and enhancing supervision processes.

He underscored the significance of transitioning to a fully computer-based examination system by 2027 and addressing the issue of candidate substitution during exams.

According to him, these initiatives will be driven by the government’s substantial investment in education under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu, with a strong emphasis on human capital development.

The minister further announced that examination certificates would now incorporate three key identifiers—national identification numbers, candidates’ photographs, and birthdates—to ensure the authenticity of results.
