As part of his intensified crackdown on illegal immigration, former U.S. President Donald Trump has ramped up deportation efforts, placing 3,690 Nigerians in the U.S. at risk of removal.
This initiative aligns with a broader strategy to enforce immigration laws more rigorously. A document obtained by our correspondent, compiled by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO), details the number of non-citizens facing deportation by country. As of November 24, 2024, ICE’s non-detained docket lists 1,445,549 individuals with final removal orders.
The report, titled Noncitizens on the ICE Non-Detained Docket with Final Orders of Removal by Country of Citizenship, shows Mexico and El Salvador leading with 252,044 and 203,822 individuals, respectively. Nigeria, with 3,690 cases, ranks among the countries with a notable number of people facing deportation.
ICE, responsible for safeguarding U.S. national security, continues its efforts against cross-border crime and illegal immigration.
Reports suggest Nigerians, along with other African immigrants, may be among the next groups targeted as Trump’s administration steps up its campaign to remove undocumented immigrants. The looming deportations have sparked fear among Nigerian nationals living illegally in the U.S.
Trump has consistently taken a hardline stance on illegal immigration. On his first day as the 47th U.S. President, he signed executive orders tightening immigration policies, including ending birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and strengthening border security with additional troop deployments.
He has also vowed to prioritize the removal of “criminal aliens.” His administration’s zero-tolerance policy has led to widespread arrests and deportations, reinforcing his pledge for mass removals.
