The crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Wednesday as Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye clashed over the National Secretary position.
Both men staked their claim to the role during the ongoing PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
Ude-Okoye arrived before Anyanwu and acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum. However, upon Anyanwu’s arrival, suspected thugs ejected Ude-Okoye, sparking a heated confrontation.
Amid the chaos, Ude-Okoye resisted his removal, calling on supporters to intervene.
The dispute over the National Secretary position began when Anyanwu vacated the seat to contest the Imo governorship election, which he lost. In his absence, the PDP South-East Caucus endorsed Ude-Okoye as his replacement.
Following his electoral defeat, Anyanwu returned to reclaim his position, reigniting tensions within the party.
On December 20, 2024, an Appeal Court in Enugu upheld a High Court ruling that removed Anyanwu and affirmed Ude-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary.
Anyanwu has accused former PDP South-East Zonal Vice Chairman, Ali Odefa, of orchestrating his removal.
