The Nigeria Police Force has affirmed that the enforcement of mandatory Third-Party Insurance for vehicle owners nationwide will begin on February 1 as scheduled.

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance road safety and ensure compliance with insurance regulations, protecting both vehicle owners and other road users.

Adejobi cautioned against non-compliance, stating that enforcement measures will include fines and other penalties in accordance with existing laws.

“Effective Feb. 1, all vehicle owners nationwide are required to possess valid Third Party Insurance as they move about.

“Those without the insurance are advised to be insured quickly to avoid any sort of embarrassment,” he said.
He said the Inspector-General of Police (I-G) Mr Kayode Egbetokun, had directed all Commissioners of Police nationwide to ensure due enforcement.

Adejobi stated that police officers would be authorized to conduct checks and impose penalties for non-compliance in accordance with existing laws.

He reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to improving road safety and safeguarding lives through the enforcement of traffic regulations.

The police spokesman urged public cooperation to ensure the effective implementation of the policy.

It will be recalled that on January 10, the Inspector-General of Police announced that the enforcement of mandatory Third-Party Insurance for vehicle owners nationwide would commence on February 1. The announcement was made during his meeting with Mr. Olusegun Omosehin, Commissioner for Insurance at the National Insurance Commission.
