The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims about his health, stating that he is in good condition. Wike affirmed that he is hale and hearty, attributing the rumors of illness to critics and detractors. He made this known during an interview with BBC Pidgin, scheduled for release on Saturday evening. According to Wike: “As I’m talking to you, do I look like somebody that is sick? Looking at me, will you think I’m above 30 years? I’m very well.” Speaking about him grooming his son for politics, Wike said: “What’s wrong with that?” In April, reports surfaced claiming that Wike had collapsed during an event at the Presidential Villa in Abuja and was swiftly flown out of the country for urgent medical treatment. However, just two days later, Wike made a public appearance, joining other dignitaries on a Sallah visit to President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, where he appeared cheerful and energetic, effectively dispelling the health rumours. His media aide, Lere Olayinka, also refuted the claims, describing them as baseless. Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State, later dismissed the reports himself, stating they were a deliberate distraction from revelations made by the immediate past Rivers Head of Service, George Nwaeke, concerning the explosion at the Rivers State House of Assembly.
