Former Vice President and prominent member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, Atiku Abubakar, has signaled his intention to contest the presidency in 2027.
Atiku also pledged to deal decisively with anyone found guilty of corruption if elected.
He made these remarks while speaking to a gathering in Hausa.
In a video on X, Atiku could be heard saying: “I swear to God, if elected, whoever steals or engages in any corruption-related activities, we will declare war against them and they must be punished”
Atiku, who contested and lost the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is widely believed to have aligned himself with his newly formed coalition within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Although he has not formally declared his defection from the PDP to the ADC, Atiku has emerged as a prominent figure in the opposition coalition.
Just recently, the coalition unveiled its interim leadership, naming David Mark as the Interim National Chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as the Interim National Secretary, among other notable appointments.
