Crystal Palace edged Liverpool on penalties to claim this season’s Community Shield on Sunday. Liverpool struck early as debutant Hugo Ekitike found the net within four minutes. The Eagles drew level soon after when Ismaila Sarr was fouled in the box, with Jean-Philippe Mateta converting from the spot. The Reds regained the lead almost immediately when Jeremie Frimpong’s cross looped over Dean Henderson into the goal. But with minutes remaining, Sarr broke through to equalise at 2-2, forcing a penalty shootout. Henderson pulled off a string of brilliant saves to secure Palace’s victory, adding the Community Shield to their FA Cup triumph earlier in the year.
