A fatal accident occurred in Auchi on Sunday when a Dangote truck lost control and rammed into several vehicles, including a Mercedes-Benz GLK, killing three persons and leaving one critically injured.
The crash happened along the Auchi–Okpella–Okene Expressway, directly opposite the Omega Fire Ministry headquarters. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the accident was caused by brake failure as the truck descended a slope, leading to the deadly collision.
Eyewitnesses said the impact crushed the Mercedes-Benz beyond recognition, instantly killing three occupants while one survivor was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Confirming the incident, the Edo State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Paul Okpe, explained that officers promptly moved to the scene to evacuate the victims and clear the highway. He warned articulated vehicle operators to conduct routine checks on their trucks and adhere strictly to safety regulations.
Reacting to the tragedy, the General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministry, Apostle Johnson Suleman, whose church is located directly opposite the scene of the crash, condemned the recklessness of Dangote truck drivers. He described the incident as avoidable and vowed to challenge the company over repeated cases of carnage involving its vehicles.
“This reckless killing by Dangote drivers will not go unchallenged,” Apostle Suleman said. “How many more lives must be lost before something is done?”
Residents of Auchi and other road users have since called on the Dangote Group to take urgent measures, including retraining drivers and ensuring stricter enforcement of safety compliance, to avert further loss of lives.
As of press time, the identities of the victims were yet to be released.
