The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has issued a stern warning to loan apps and other lending businesses against harassing or intimidating Nigerians over unpaid debts. The commission urged consumers to immediately report cases of harassment, noting that it has received increasing complaints about aggressive debt recovery tactics. These include threatening phone calls, intimidating text messages, and public shaming on social media. Reaffirming its stance, the FCCPC stressed that “no consumer should live in fear,” and vowed to protect Nigerians from unfair and deceptive practices. It further cautioned that continued harassment by loan companies will attract severe sanctions. The commission advised Nigerians to lodge complaints through its official website and social media channels, assuring that swift and decisive action will be taken against erring operators.
