The resignation of the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has been linked to alleged plans by former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to defect to the ruling party. WAFFI TV gathered that Ganduje submitted his resignation letter on Friday to the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, in Abuja. While initial reports suggested Ganduje stepped down due to health reasons, fresh details have emerged. A source familiar with the matter told WAFFI TV on Friday night that Ganduje’s decision was prompted by Kwankwaso’s anticipated move from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC. According to the source, Kwankwaso is expected to join APC “any moment from now, except he changes his mind again but as of today, the arrangement has been made for that to happen”. “It looks like they are sworn enemies, the defection of Kwankwaso is very important to the APC, especially as 2027 is concerned, but Ganduje has vowed that he won’t welcome him into the party so he has to step aside”, the source added. There has been speculation that President Bola Tinubu might drop Vice President Kashim Shettima and choose Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election. Some APC stakeholders reportedly supporting this plan argue that Kwankwaso carries greater electoral value than the current vice president.
