Veteran Nollywood actress Genevieve Nnaji has taken a strong swipe at the growing trend of referral-based "business opportunities" that offer quick returns but no real value. In a recent post that has gone viral, she dissected the deceptive nature of such schemes, describing them as “Mathematics of Deceit.” Quoting a common pitch used in such scams, she wrote: "Hello dear, I have a lucrative business opportunity for you. All you need to do is refer 10 people that’ll refer 20 more people…” To which she responded bluntly: “That’s not business, that’s Mathematics of Dēcēit.” Genevieve pointed to the recent crash of CBEX, a self-proclaimed*“tech-based crypto aggro-forex solution with smart contracts.” Once hailed as the future of finance, the platform has now left investors stranded and in tears. “Weeks ago, they were team ‘Tech-based crypto aggro-forex solution with smart contracts.’ Today they’re wēēping,” she said. She highlighted a major red flag in such operations: the absence of any real product or service. “People love quick money but forget that quick money vanishes quickly. No product, no service, just vibes and urgent referrals!” Taking a dig at the illusion of building wealth through endless referrals, she warned: “If a ‘business’ needs 10 people to bring 20 people before money flows, then what you're building is not wealth; it’s a tower of Babel with referral links.” Genevieve criticized how founders often disappear once these schemes collapse, leaving victims in financial and emotional distress. “When it crashes, the founders disappear and the victims are left to lick their wounds while making motivational posts like: ‘God will restore all that the cankerworm and caterpillar have eaten’ ‘Double for my trouble.’” But she didn’t stop there. Her message was also spiritual and sobering: “God doesn't bless fraud. Use your brain before your pocket enters ICU.” Genevieve’s final line was the mic drop: “If the only thing being sold is hope, you’re the product.” Her words have resonated with thousands online, serving as both a warning and a wake-up call in an age where digital scams are disguised as innovation.
