The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, expressing support for the removal of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. Tinubu had suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the House of Assembly amid a prolonged political crisis in the oil-rich state—a move that has sparked widespread debate across Nigeria. Wike, however, defended the president’s actions, claiming they averted a total collapse in Rivers and describing the appointment of a sole administrator as a necessary and timely intervention. He made these remarks on Friday in Abuja during a media chat with selected journalists.
