Nollywood actress and entrepreneur Iyabo Ojo has made it clear that marriage is not on the horizon in her relationship with music executive Paul Okoye, popularly known as Paulo.
During a recent appearance on TVC’s talk show Your View, the actress candidly revealed that she and Paulo are not planning to walk down the aisle, emphasizing that they are both content with the current structure of their relationship.
“We don’t want marriage,” she stated firmly, noting that their bond is built on mutual understanding, freedom, and companionship, not traditional expectations.
The actress, who is currently preparing for her daughter Priscilla Ojo’s upcoming wedding to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux, explained that she and Paulo have tailored their relationship to suit their individual lifestyles. According to her, both she and Paulo are “workaholics” who value personal space and independence.
“That Igbo man likes to work,” Iyabo said with a smile. “For me, there are times when I want to be alone, and I just pack my bags and return to my house. We never fight over that because he understands.”
Iyabo emphasized that the strength of their partnership lies in their ability to communicate and respect each other’s need for space without pressure or conflict. She described their relationship as one rooted in companionship and enjoyment, not the pursuit of traditional milestones like marriage or having more children.
“We’re both parents of two children each from previous relationships,” she added, clarifying that expanding their family is not part of their shared goals.
Iyabo Ojo first confirmed her relationship with Paulo in December 2022, celebrating her 45th birthday by posting a heartwarming video collage of their special moments together. The announcement was met with excitement from fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry, many of whom praised the couple for their openness.
A year later, in a light-hearted interview, Paulo jokingly commented on how Iyabo had “invaded his space” and “snatched him” from his former lifestyle, to which Iyabo playfully responded that their relationship was purely about "enjoyment and peace of mind."
As conversations around marriage, partnerships, and modern relationships continue to evolve in society, Iyabo Ojo’s revelation adds a refreshing perspective, one that highlights intentional companionship without societal pressure.
For the actress, love without marriage is not a compromise, it’s a choice.
