A two-storey building collapsed on Wednesday evening at 4 Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos State, leaving one person injured and five others rescued. The incident, which occurred around 6:00 p.m., trapped a 44-year-old man, a resident of 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho. He was eventually pulled from the rubble with multiple fractures and bruises. Officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) rushed him to the Surgical Emergency Unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was admitted and reported to be in stable condition. According to Information and Strategy Commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso, the five survivors were taken to a private hospital in the neighbourhood for treatment. Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said officials of LASEMA and other first responders arrived promptly at the scene, rescuing a trapped victim alongside five others from the rubble. He noted that the trapped victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition and admitted for further treatment. Videos circulating on social media captured LASEMA operatives actively engaged in the rescue efforts. The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained. This latest incident adds to the rising number of building collapses in Lagos. In May, three family members lost their lives after an uncompleted two-storey building gave way in Ikorodu. Again, in July, four people narrowly escaped death when a three-storey structure collapsed on Adeniji-Adele Road, Isale Eko.
