Nollywood actress and businesswoman Mercy Aigbe is under fire after a controversial take on infidelity surfaced online, allegedly urging women to "look away with style" if their husbands are unfaithful, so long as he’s fulfilling his responsibilities at home.
In a widely circulated post, Mercy Aigbe allegedly advised married women not to let social media feminism or “Twitter woke-ism” ruin a comfortable marriage over something as “small” as a husband’s “special friend.”
“If your husband dey take care of you wella, pay all the bills, give you and the pikin dem attention, and still carry you go places wey you no even dream of before and him come get one ‘special friend’ for side; my sister, na cheating be that?” the post reads.
She continues:
“No let your single, vexing, feminista association members answer this one for you o! Calm down think am with chilled zobo… Wise woman dey look away with style, no let small side dish make you throway the whole buffet.”
While Mercy has yet to personally confirm the quote, the message has gone viral, stirring passionate conversations on what it means to be a “wise woman” in marriage.
Some interpret her stance as a realistic take on modern relationships, where complete monogamy is often idealized but not always realized. Others argue it promotes toxic tolerance, silencing women’s emotional needs and legitimizing betrayal.
“This is dangerous advice wrapped in ‘submission’. Infidelity is not a minor issue. It breaks trust and spreads disease,” one Instagram user wrote.
“She’s being real. Many women are happily married today because they don’t fight over what they can’t change,” a Facebook commenter countered.
The quote concludes by warning women not to let online feminism mislead them into breaking their homes.
“You no fit stop am from doing wetin him wan do, so relax… Focus on the important part, make sure the 'special friendship' is safe and coded.”
Though it remains unclear whether Mercy Aigbe made the comments during a live session or written post, this isn’t the first time the actress has stirred headlines over her outspoken views on relationships, especially after her high-profile remarriage to filmmaker Kazim Adeoti.
As the debates continue, one thing is clear: the question of how far a woman should go to preserve her home, especially in the face of infidelity, remains one of Nigeria’s most emotionally charged social issues.
