The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has discovered five illegal crude oil storage sites in the Jahi/Katampe area of Abuja. This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by the NSCDC Spokesperson, Afolabi Babawale. According to the corps, seven suspects have been arrested in connection with the illicit crude oil refining and distribution operation. The Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) also recovered several vehicles, including trucks filled with stolen Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), during the operation. Among the impounded items were a white three-compartment truck loaded with 45,000 litres of AGO and an unverifiable waybill, four Mercedes-Benz short peddler trucks, other vehicles, pumping machines, various hoses, a Mikano generator, and approximately 23 metallic surface tanks, some of which contained large amounts of suspected AGO. A container shelter and other items were also seized. The NSCDC stated that the arrests demonstrate the corps' firm commitment to combating crude oil theft across Nigeria. It added that the suspects would face prosecution to serve as a warning to others engaged in similar crimes.
