Popular Nollywood actress and media personality, Nancy Isime, has stirred heated conversations online after delivering a pointed take on societal double standards regarding "gold digging." In a now-viral statement, Isime challenged the widespread stereotype that women are the primary culprits when it comes to seeking financial gain in relationships, arguing that many men are just as guilty, if not more so. “You think say na only babes dey dig gold abi?” she began in a post that has lit up social media. “Bros, you neva see how some broke men dey turn to puppy once dem jam man wey get small Benz and big belly?” Isime humorously but sharply described the behavior she’s observed among some financially struggling men when they encounter wealthier counterparts. According to her, it’s not uncommon to see such men instantly adopt a submissive, overly loyal posture just to curry favor with someone who appears affluent. “Just one handshake from the rich guy, next thing, the broke man don loyal, any small thing: Chairman! Boss! Mentor of life!” she wrote. “Even if the rich man insult am ‘I'm loyal, Sir!’” She didn’t stop there. Isime painted a vivid picture of the extent to which some men go: carrying bags, opening car doors, wiping sweat that isn’t there, even using their own shirts to clean chairs often for men they may be older than. The actress concluded her post with a mic-drop statement: “Gold digging no be gender thing. Na men dey dig gold pass. I don talk finish.” Her comments have since sparked wide reactions across social media platforms, with users split between applause and criticism. Some praised her for voicing a hard truth rarely discussed in mainstream media, while others accused her of generalizing or being too harsh. Nonetheless, Isime’s post has ignited a broader conversation about gender roles, economic power, and the sometimes unseen dynamics between men in social and professional hierarchies. As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: gold digging isn’t limited to romantic relationships or to women. And Nancy Isime has once again proven she's unafraid to say what many only whisper.
