Restoration of Nigeria’s national grid commenced on Wednesday afternoon following its collapse at about 11:30 a.m. on September 10, 2025.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company, in separate notices, confirmed the nationwide outage caused by the incident.
In an update posted on X, the Nigeria National Grid announced that restoration efforts were underway. According to the update, a total of 495 megawatts had been restored and distributed to Abuja (150 MW), Benin (40 MW), Eko (80 MW), Enugu (40 MW), Ibadan (50 MW), Ikeja (80 MW), Kano (35 MW) and Kaduna (25 MW). Other areas, including Port Harcourt, Jos and Yola, remained without supply as at the time of filing this report.
A DAILY POST correspondent confirmed that electricity was restored to Dawaki and Zone 7 Dutse in Abuja around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Ndidi Mbah, for further details on the collapse were unsuccessful, as calls were not answered or returned.
WAFFI TV recalls that in January and March 2025, there were grid-related incidents, although the TCN insisted they were not collapses. Between 2010 and 2022, Nigeria recorded 222 grid collapses, while 10 incidents were documented in 2024.
