After a spectacular loan spell at Galatasaray, where he fired in 37 goals and added six assists to power the club to a league and cup double, Victor Osimhen is set to return to Napoli, but not to the warmest of welcomes. The Nigerian forward has been ordered to report for pre-season training on July 14–15, yet his future at the club remains clouded in uncertainty. So far, only Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal has activated his €75 million release clause, but Osimhen turned down the lucrative move, leaving his next destination up in the air. Napoli, under new head coach Antonio Conte, will kick off pre-season with medical tests before training camps in Dimaro (July 17–27) and Castel di Sangro (July 30–August 14). However, Conte has reportedly informed Osimhen that he will not be part of his plans for the coming campaign. Instead of joining the first team in tactical and technical sessions, the 26-year-old striker is set to train apart to keep fit, working with the youth squad, echoing a similar exile he faced last season during protracted transfer talks. Unless a transfer breakthrough comes soon, Osimhen’s return to Italy looks destined to be a tense and isolated one.
