A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has alleged that certain PDP governors are under pressure to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Speaking on Tuesday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, Ologbondiyan made the claim shortly after a meeting involving President Bola Tinubu, the suspended Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. He rejected suggestions that the internal crisis rocking the PDP is the primary reason for defections, maintaining instead that several members are being intimidated into leaving the party. He stated, “Talking about the Rivers situation, I will be honest. I think that the PDP did all it could, some on a negative side, others on a positive side. I think the takeaway for the People’s Democratic Party in this matter is that its governors are being harassed. “They are being humiliated and whether they can openly say it or not, they are being forced to abandon their party and join the All Progressive Congress and President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s political party.” Ologbondiyan acknowledged that Tinubu stepping in to settle the rift between Wike and Fubara was a political win for the APC and a loss for the PDP. He advised the PDP to move on from the crisis in Rivers State and focus on protecting the loyalty of its governors
