President Bola Tinubu on Thursday held a closed-door meeting with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers in a renewed effort to resolve the prolonged political crisis in the state.
The meeting, held at the Presidential Villa, was the first time Governor Fubara had been seen with President Tinubu since the president declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, suspending the governor, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and the state assembly over internal discord and rising security tensions.
The latest talks signaled possible progress in reconciliation, as photos released afterwards showed the president, governor, and minister smiling together.
According to presidency sources, the meeting played a key role in mending the rift among the factions that have stalled governance in the oil-producing state.
