Spanish giants Real Madrid secured a 1–0 victory over Juventus on Tuesday, booking a Club World Cup quarter-final tie against Borussia Dortmund, who narrowly defeated Mexican side Monterrey.
Serhou Guirassy netted twice for Dortmund as they edged Sergio Ramos’s Monterrey 2–1 in a hard-fought last-16 encounter in Atlanta, denying the veteran defender a reunion with his former club.
Earlier in Miami, rising star Gonzalo Garcia scored his third goal of the tournament with a decisive header that saw Madrid overcome the Italian side at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Xabi Alonso’s Madrid team, still unbeaten under the new coach, were also buoyed by Kylian Mbappé’s return from illness, coming on as a second-half substitute.
