The House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) has initiated an investigation into key challenges facing Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.
As part of its mandate, the committee will examine the controversial turnaround maintenance of the nation’s refineries, the acquisition of OVH Energy, and growing concerns about potential market dominance by the Dangote Refinery.
Chairman of the Committee, Ikenga Ugochinyere, announced the probe during a press conference held in Abuja on Wednesday.
He expressed concern over the recent shutdown of the Port Harcourt and Warri refineries despite the widespread publicity surrounding their return to operation.
“We are not out to protect anybody. If anybody is found to have been engaged in corrupt activities, the law should be allowed its course,” Ugochinyere said.
