
The Nigerian Senate has set up an 18-member committee to monitor the activities of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd.), aiming to boost transparency and accountability in the state’s governance.
Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, was appointed as the committee chairman.
The announcement came on Tuesday from Senate President Godswill Akpabio during the Senate’s plenary session. He underscored the significance of the committee’s task, emphasizing its vital role in ensuring proper legislative oversight in Rivers State. Akpabio also noted that the committee's composition may be reviewed after further consultations.
The committee includes Senators Adamu Aliero, Osita Izunaso, Osita Ngwu (South East), Kaka Shehu, Aminu Abass, Tokunbo Abiru, Adeniyi Adebire (Ondo), Sani Musa, Simon Lalong, Asuquo Ekpeyong, Adams Oshiomhole, Ireti Kingibe (Labour Party), Onyekachi, Idiat Adebule, Ide Dafinone, and Mohammed (APC, Jigawa), along with the Clerk of the Senate.
Akpabio directed the committee to begin its oversight work immediately, highlighting the urgency of the assignment and reaffirming the Senate’s dedication to safeguarding democratic governance in Rivers State.
