The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced that it is mobilizing members nationwide for a mass rally slated for Tuesday, August 26, 2025.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday at the Federal University of Oye-Ekiti, the union’s Zonal Coordinator, Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, said the action is aimed at mounting pressure on the Federal Government to meet its long-standing demands.
Egbedokun explained that the rallies mark ASUU’s first major response to the government’s persistent inaction, warning that the protests are only a prelude to tougher measures if the issues remain unresolved. He added that the rallies would take place simultaneously in universities across the country, with academic activities suspended during the demonstrations.
The ASUU official further disclosed that the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) has given the government until its meeting scheduled for August 28 to respond, after which the union will decide its next course of action.
“For over two years, we have kept faith with dialogue and refrained from strikes, but our patience has reached its limit.
“If the government continues to play games with the future of our universities, then it must bear the consequences of the storm that will follow,” he warned.
