President Bola Tinubu has approved a new scholarship programme for students from the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) to pursue studies at Nigerian universities starting from the next academic session. Speaking on Monday at a joint press conference in Gros Islet with Saint Lucian Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre, Tinubu announced that the initiative is already underway and will be overseen by a joint committee comprising representatives from Nigeria and OECS member countries. “The Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States is very close to us in Africa. We are moving forward to facilitate business and education opportunities, capacity building, and explore other areas such as agriculture and food security. We won’t drop the ball,” Tinubu said. The initiative, he explained, is part of a broader framework to deepen cooperation in education, trade, and development. He also confirmed that discussions were underway on granting visa waivers to holders of diplomatic and official passports from OECS countries.
