U.S. President Donald Trump unveiled the first $5 million “gold card” residency permit aboard Air Force One on Thursday. Holding a prototype that bore his face and an inscription “The Trump Card”, the Republican president told reporters that the special visa would probably be available “in less than two weeks”. “I’m the first buyer,” he said. “Pretty exciting, huh?” Trump previously stated that the new high-priced visa, a premium alternative to the traditional green card, would attract job creators and help reduce the U.S. national deficit. The billionaire and former real estate mogul, who has prioritized the deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants in his second term, described the new card as a pathway to coveted U.S. citizenship. In February, he said his administration aimed to sell “maybe a million” of the cards and did not exclude the possibility that Russian oligarchs could qualify.
