Verstappen Remains Relaxed About Red Bull Future Amidst Speculation
Max Verstappen has downplayed speculation surrounding his future with Red Bull, stating that he is "very relaxed" about his situation despite the team's challenging start to the 2025 Formula 1 season. Following a sixth-place finish at the Bahrain Grand Prix, Red Bull's motorsport adviser Helmut Marko expressed concerns about Verstappen's potential departure from the team.
However, Verstappen emphasized his focus on the present, saying, "A lot of people are talking about it except me. Like I said before, I just want to focus on my car, work with the people in the team - that's the only thing I'm thinking about in Formula 1 at the moment. I'm very relaxed."
Contract and Performance Clause
Verstappen's contract with Red Bull runs until 2028, but Marko revealed that it contains a performance clause that could allow him to leave the team. Speculation has linked Verstappen to potential moves to Mercedes and Aston Martin for 2026, when new regulations are set to be introduced.
Focus on the Season
Despite the speculation, Verstappen remains focused on the current season, aiming to win a record-equalling fifth consecutive drivers' title. He currently sits third in the championship, eight points behind leader Lando Norris of McLaren. The Dutchman expressed optimism about his team's prospects in the upcoming Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, saying, "I think [Saudi Arabia] will be better than Bahrain."
Challenges Ahead
Verstappen acknowledged the challenges his team faces, stating, "At the moment, we are not the quickest, so it is tough to fight for a championship, but it is a long road." He reflected on the team's dominant performance in previous seasons, saying, "I enjoyed last year and the year before when we were dominant. Now it is enjoyable in a way of the challenges that are out there and trying to improve the situation."
As the season progresses, Verstappen's focus will be on overcoming the current challenges and regaining his team's competitive edge. With his sights set on the championship, he will look to capitalize on every opportunity to close the gap with Norris and reclaim the top spot.
