Pakistan’s police said Saturday that a man faces murder charges for allegedly shooting the administrator of a community WhatsApp group who removed him from the chat. Mushtaq Ahmed was reportedly shot dead on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province bordering Afghanistan known for sectarian violence. Police documents identify the suspect only as Ashfaq, who has been charged with murder. According to a statement by Mushtaq’s brother, the dispute began after Mushtaq removed Ashfaq from the WhatsApp group following an argument. The two had planned to meet and reconcile, but Ashfaq allegedly arrived armed and opened fire, killing Mushtaq. Reports suggest that the availability of firearms, tribal customs, and weak law enforcement contribute to such violent incidents.
