Nearly all the invited players for the Super Eagles’ Qatar 2022 World Cup Qualifiers against Central African Republic (CAR) have arrived for tomorrow’s tie at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The team had it first training session at the match venue yesterday under Coach Gernot Rohr.
With the arrival of Simon Moses from France, the number of players in camp grew to 22 as Leon Balogun, Joseph Aribo, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Francis Uzoho, Kenneth Omeruo, Victor Osimhen and Kelechi Iheanacho have all joined the team.
On Monday, Ejuke Chidera, Daniel Akpeyi, Onuachu Paul, Samuel Kalu, Kevin Akpoguma, Jamilu Collins, Innocent Bonke, Chidozie Awaziem, Taiwo Awoniyi, William Ekong, and Frank Onyeka were the early birds.
As at press time yesterday, only goalkeeper Maduka Okoye was expected to team up with his colleagues from his base in Netherlands.
Meanwhile, Central African Republic head coach Raoul Savoy has identified Victor Osimhen as a threat to his team, adding the Napoli striker who is expected to spearhead Eagles’ attack, is Africa’s best striker at the moment.
“I don’t like to talk about specific players because you know that football is a game we play with 11 players and substitutes,” Savoy reportedly said. “For now I think Osimhen is doing very well in Napoli, he is scoring a lot of goals.
“I like his style of play, powerful and a really good striker. For us, of course, it will be an honour to play against this class of players but for now, I think Osimhen is for me the best at the moment
