Waffi TVDecember 10, 2018

The leadership of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, yesterday, said Urhobo nation will not bow to any form of intimidation whether from individual or government.

The President General of Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Chief Joe Orode Omene , who made this statement at Mosogar, Ethiope West Local government area, Delta State while marking 2018, UPU 87th annual national congress, said it is pained that some unpatriotic Urhobos are collaborating with a self confessed Ijaw man to cause disunity among Urhobos.

Omene said all their efforts to put Urhobo in her rightful place and direction had always be thwarted by some unpatriotic Urhobos working tirelessly with a settler from the Ijaw nation to see that Urhobo is relegated to the background through their supposed sons and daughters.

Omene said, “Why we will not relent to fighting the course of the Urhobo, we will not hesitate to bring to the public domain that about two years ago, some unpatriotic Urhobos collaborated with some traditional rulers, Delta State government and installed an Ijaw man as UPU President General.

“Since January 2nd 2016, that they conducted a purported parallel election without the invitation and participation of all constitutionally recognized delegates with heavy military presence, we have been carrying out our activities despite government harassment and intimidation.

“We have remained undaunted and ensure that the governance of UPU is never hijacked and handed to a self confessed Ijaw man by government in active participation of some unpatriotic and self seeking Urhobo kings and we have seen that Urhobo politicians do not see the importance to support any genuine Urhobo course rather than their personal and selfish interest.”

While speaking on his achievements, Omene stated that his executive committee met about 36 branches of UPU without a single kingdom branch in Urhobo land, and that before the crisis, they have been able to establish 22 branches of the 24 kingdoms of Urhobo nation.

He stressed that before the crisis two years ago, they were able to establish branches in Africa,Europe and Asian, saying that if not for the present crisis, UPU branches would have been in many countries of the world just like Nigeria has embassies world wide.
