Newcastle United legend, Alan Shearer has slammed referee, Andy Madley and VAR over their decision that cost West Ham a draw against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
It was what many have described as a day-light robbery when West Ham’s goal that levelled things up in the London derby was disallowed by VAR after the referee had initially pointed to the centre circle.
It was a big frustration for manager, David Moyes and his team to leave Stamford Bridge defeated after putting up much effort to get the equaliser, which they actually got.
VAR had deemed that Edouard Mendy was fouled in the build-up to Maxwel Cornet’s goal, though replays suggested that was far from case.
And speaking on Match of the Day, Shearer said, “‘Minimum interference, maximum benefit’, was what we were told when VAR was brought in.
“It is as bad a decision as you will ever see…
“They [VAR officials] should be told to stay out of it. This was never ever, ever a foul. And I don’t think anyone who has played the game will agree with the VAR Jared Gillett and the referee Andy Madley.
“The keeper [Mendy] goes down because he realises he’s made a wreck. [Jarrod] Bowen just steps over him, he doesn’t interfere with the play.
“Why doesn’t he [Madley] stick to his decision?”
