The Delta State House of Assembly on Wednesday passed the Anti-Terrorism and Anti-Cultism (Amendment) Bill, 2025 for executive assent.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the bill seeks to outlaw terrorism, cultism, and the use of explosive devices within the state.
The executive amendment aims to provide a clearer definition of the offence of cultism under the existing law and strengthen legal processes for the prosecution of offenders.
During the plenary, the Majority Leader, Dr. Emeka Nwaobi, moved a motion to suspend House Rules 12, Orders 80, 82, and 83, enabling the Assembly to take the third reading and pass the bill.
The motion, seconded by Mr. Charles Emetulu (APC–Ndokwa West), was unanimously adopted through a voice vote conducted by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Dennis Guwor.
Speaker Guwor commended members for their legislative diligence and dedication, noting that the passage of the bill underscores their collective commitment to the peace, safety, and well-being of Deltans.
In addition, the Assembly also passed the Delta State Colleges of Education Bill, 2025, after it scaled through its third reading.
