Oborevwori Mourns As Seven Feared Dead In Delta Tanker Explosion

Following an inspection of riverine projects in Warri South-West and Burutu Local Government Areas, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, was devastated to learn of a tragic petrol tanker explosion on the Warri-Benin Road.

Rushing to the scene, he witnessed the aftermath of a devastating incident that claimed the lives of at least seven individuals, including a three-year-old child and her mother.

Waffi TV learnt that the incident occurred when the ill-fated tanker, traveling from Effurun, lost control while attempting to overtake another truck near the boundary bridge between Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Area.

Eyewitnesses recounted the horrifying scene of victims burnt beyond recognition, with several others sustaining injuries and being hospitalized.

The tragedy, which unfolded around 10 am, resulted in the destruction of buildings, vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks. Witnesses narrated the heroic but ultimately tragic efforts of a mother attempting to rescue her three-year-old child trapped in the raging fire.

Additionally, a secondary school student returning home met an untimely death in the blaze.

As the state grapples with this tragedy, Governor Oborevwori expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, praying for the repose of their souls.

Meanwhile, Prince Enjinyere, Director-General of the Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Development Agency (WUEDA), was on-site assessing the damage and coordinating efforts to remove the fuel-laden truck from the road to prevent further harm.
