Enraged farmers in Delta State accuse the state government of favoritism towards the Delta Central region in the distribution of federal government grains palliatives, alleging that Ijaw farmers were deliberately sidelined.
The farmers, particularly from Burutu, Patani, Warri North, Warri South, Warri South West, and Bomadi local government areas, voiced their grievances through Mr. Ganagana Francis, who led a protest before the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum.
They claimed that despite their efforts to engage with government officials responsible for the distribution, they were ignored, with the bulk of the aid allegedly going to individuals in Delta Central.
Ganagana expressed concern over nepotism and the conversion of palliatives into commercial gain, threatening a large-scale protest if the governor, Sheriff Oborewori, does not address their concerns.
In response, the Ijaw Publishers’ Forum urged the affected farmers to pursue their cause peacefully while promising to advocate for their inclusion through official channels.
