Lagos residents panic after two storey building collapses
A two-storey building collapsed on Wednesday evening at 4 Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos State, leaving one person injured and five others rescued. The incident, which occurred around 6:00 p.m., trapped a 44-year-old man, a resident of 10 Olabode Street, Alimosho. He was eventually pulled from the rubble with multiple fractures and bruises. Officials of the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) rushed him to the Surgical Emergency Unit of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was admitted and reported to be in stable condition. According to Information and Strategy Commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso, the five survivors were taken to a private hospital in the neighbourhood for treatment. Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, said officials of LASEMA and other first responders arrived promptly at the scene, rescuing a trapped victim alongside five others from the rubble. He noted that the trapped victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition and admitted for further treatment. Videos circulating on social media captured LASEMA operatives actively engaged in the rescue efforts. The cause of the collapse is yet to be ascertained. This latest incident adds to the rising number of building collapses in Lagos. In May, three family members lost their lives after an uncompleted two-storey building gave way in Ikorodu. Again, in July, four people narrowly escaped death when a three-storey structure collapsed on Adeniji-Adele Road, Isale Eko.

Police Dismiss, Declare Officer Wanted Over Role In Bayelsa High Court Judge’s Abduction
The Bayelsa State Police Command has dismissed Sergeant Obrientele Ebiarede for his alleged involvement in the abduction of Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro of the Bayelsa State High Court. The officer, who hails from Foutorugbene community in Ekeremor Local Government Area—the same as the abducted judge—was also declared a deserter by the Command. According to police authorities, acting on the directive of Commissioner of Police, Francis Idu, Sergeant Ebiarede was dismissed for being absent without official leave for over 30 days, in violation of Section 398(1) of the Police Act and Regulations, 2020. While a combined team of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the State Police’s Operation Puff Adder has so far arrested eight suspects linked to the judge’s abduction, Ebiarede remains at large. Sources within the investigation revealed that operatives of Operation Puff Adder, led by CSP Chris Nwaogbo, raided the Edepie residence of one of the suspects, Emizibo Clement, also known as "Obonor." During the operation, a motorcycle allegedly used by the dismissed officer to deliver logistics to the kidnappers was recovered. Emizibo Clement, now in police custody, owns the residential building in Edepie where he was arrested. His involvement in the case has shocked tenants, many of whom expressed disbelief over his alleged connection to the kidnapping. Police sources confirmed that official signals have been sent to all state commands and the 17 Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) zones to aid in the immediate arrest of the fleeing Sergeant Ebiarede. In addition, the Police High Command has ordered the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS) and the Police Budget Office to stop further payment of his salary. Investigations show that Ebiarede has been receiving his pay from the Enugu State Police Command. He has also been slated for eviction from the police barracks. Justice Omukoro was abducted in June and held for 13 days before being released without a ransom, though his captors reportedly demanded N300 million in foreign currency shortly before his freedom. Commissioner Francis Idu has since paraded eight suspects—six men and two women—who have been implicated to varying degrees in the abduction.

Police Arrest 11~Year~Old Girl With Drugs In Delta
Police operatives from the Ekpan Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State have arrested an 11-year-old girl for unlawful possession of controlled substances. The minor, who identified herself simply as Rejoice during an interview with the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, at the Police Headquarters in Asaba, stated that she was apprehended inside a commercial tricycle in Warri while returning home. She revealed that the drugs in her possession were valued at N100,000. “My name is Rejoice. My mum sent me to buy the drugs, and I was arrested with them in a Keke. I was alone with the driver in the Keke. I had codeine, tramadol, and ‘swinnol’ in the bag,” she said. She denied allegations circulating on some blogs that she was arrested for drugs found in a Keke she merely boarded. The suspect maintained that she was the one who brought the drugs in a black polythene bag. Her mother, Esther Ugbunugo, 45, who also spoke, admitted that she sent her daughter to buy the drugs. She said she sold them to a group of boys she described as “Yahoo boys,” adding that she occasionally used the drugs herself. “My daughter was arrested with drugs – codeine and tramadol. I sent her to get them on Jakpa Road. I’ve been doing the business for almost two years now. I sell them to Yahoo boys. I also take a little tramadol to sleep when I have trouble sleeping,” she confessed. Meanwhile, the police spokesperson expressed concern that a child so young could be exposed to such substances by her mother. “It trended yesterday that the police arrested an 11-year-old girl over drug allegations. Well, a one-sided story is not good. So today, (yesterday), the little girl and her mother were brought to the headquarters so we could hear from them. An 11-year-old girl is being used to buy and sell hard drugs. It’s sad. “It is particularly troubling. My concern is that an 11-year-old girl could identify the drugs by name without reading from the packs. This is not right in any way,” he said.

Saudi ‘Sleeping Prince’ Dies After 20 Years In Coma
Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid Al-Saud, popularly known as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36, nearly 20 years after a tragic car accident left him in a coma. At just 15, the Saudi royal sustained a brain hemorrhage and internal injuries following a devastating crash in London in 2005. He never regained full consciousness and remained on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, announced his death in a post on X on Saturday. “With hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree, and with deep sorrow and sadness, we mourn our beloved son: Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today,” the post read. Prince Al-Waleed was a student at a military college in London at the time of the accident. Despite the grim prognosis, his father remained devoted to his care and consistently rejected calls to withdraw life support, holding out hope that his son would one day recover. The announcement of his death has triggered an outpouring of sympathy on social media, with the hashtag “Sleeping Prince” trending widely. “May Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled, Rest In Peace. Deepest sympathies to his loved ones,” one user wrote. Another post read, “Your time on earth was a blessing to your family and the world in general.” “May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” added a third. Funeral prayers for the late prince are scheduled to take place at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.

Herders Kill Scores In Two~Day Rampage In Benue
Several residents are feared dead following coordinated attacks on Yelwata and Daudu communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. According to the Chief Press Secretary to the state governor, Kula Tersoo, preliminary reports from security agencies confirmed that 45 people were killed in the assaults, which began on Friday night and lasted into the early hours of Saturday. Tersoo said, “The police report available to us indicates that 45 individuals lost their lives in the Yelwata attack.” However, a community leader in Yelwata and former aide to ex-Governor Samuel Ortom, Matthew Mnyan, claimed the death toll was significantly higher. He said about 200 people, including five security personnel, were killed. Speaking to journalists via telephone on Saturday, Mnyan alleged that the attackers were armed herders who stormed the community around 11pm on Friday. He said, “It was a coordinated attack; some Fulani terrorists came from the western part of the Yelwata and started shooting and by the time policemen and young people tried to engage them, another group came from the eastern part of the community. They overran those trying to resist them. “They killed people; you know some people do sleep in their stalls. They poured petrol on their stalls in the market and burnt them. “In those stalls, we had people who moved from places like Branch Udei and people displaced from nearby villages, who slept in the stalls because of the proximity to the police and soldiers there. “As of now, from the names they are putting together, and families that were burnt and killed are running to over 200. They killed and burnt people in their houses. They will pour petrol and burn the whole place where people are sleeping. “We have a family of 15, some families of 12, men with their two wives, children and every one of them were burnt. It is a terrible sight.” Mnyan said the community was putting the names of victims together, noting that many were burnt beyond recognition. According to him, out of the 46 residents rushed to a hospital, 20 died. “This was an unprovoked attack. It was planned. For over one week, we received reports from Nasarawa State that the terrorists planned to attack Yelwata, Ukoho, Ortese, Yogbo and Daudu. So, they are moving to attack these places simultaneously. “Fortunately that same yesterday (Friday), the ones at Daudu were dislodged while some security men, including soldiers, were killed, “Women, children and toddlers were murdered in cold blood. Children had their necks slitted and killed like animals. “We had wanted to move all the corpses to the road, but I recalled that there was a time we did that and three persons were killed by security personnel,” he added.
