Burna Boy and Rema clinched victories in the inaugural Afrobeats categories during the 2023 Billboard Music Awards on November 19th. Burna Boy claimed the title of Top Afrobeats Artiste, surpassing strong contenders like Wizkid, Rema, Tems, and Cameroonian star Libianca.
Meanwhile, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ remix featuring Selena Gomez earned the award for Top Afrobeats Song, triumphing over tracks by Ayra Starr, Oxlade, Libianca, and Victony.
Despite these wins, Rema’s ‘Calm Down’ remix didn’t secure victories in the Top Billboard Collaboration, Top Billboard Excl. U.S. Song, Top Billboard Global 200 Song, and Top Radio Song categories.
Morgan Wallen emerged as the most awarded artist of the night, taking home a total of 11 awards, closely followed by Taylor Swift with 10 wins.
