How Troops Foiled Attack On Yobe Gov’s Convoy- DHQ

The Defence Headquarters has detailed how soldiers successfully thwarted an ambush on the Yobe State Governor’s convoy along the Maiduguri-Damaturu road last Saturday.

In a statement issued on Monday by Defence spokesperson Maj-Gen. Edward Buba, it was disclosed that troops from the 29 Task Force Brigade led the operation to repel the attack, which occurred approximately 6 kilometers from Benesheikh.

Although Governor Mai Mala Buni was not present during the ambush, the Secretary to the Yobe Government and several other officials were there but managed to escape unharmed. The Defence Media Operations Director revealed that the military has recovered one armored vehicle and one civilian escort car involved in the incident at the base in Benisheikh.

Buba further announced ongoing efforts by troops, including the brigade commander, conducting active patrols to track down and neutralize the responsible terrorists. The casualties from the convoy attack included one deceased police officer and five other wounded personnel, comprising military, police, and intelligence escorts, all currently in stable condition at the hospital.

“Reinforcement of troops from 29 Task Force Brigade led by the Brigade Commander are conducting fighting patrol in the area to locate the terrorists who carried out the dastardly act.

“The two vehicles affected in the incident include one military MRAP and one civilian escort vehicle whose tyres were shot at during the incident, have been safely recovered to the military camp at Benisheikh.

“Operations are ongoing to hunt and destroy the terrorists that perpetrated the attack,” he said.
