Bernardo Silva secured Manchester City’s spot in the FA Cup final with a late goal, giving them a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday.
Despite Chelsea’s dominance for much of the match, they failed to capitalize on numerous chances, allowing Silva to clinch the win six minutes from full-time. City, still reeling from their Champions League exit, struggled initially but managed to overcome Chelsea’s pressure.
The absence of Erling Haaland, due to injury, hindered City, with his replacement Julian Alvarez failing to make an impact.
Guardiola will view this hard-fought victory as a much-needed morale boost as City pursue a Premier League and FA Cup double. City will face either Manchester United or Coventry in the final on May 25, potentially setting up a rematch of last year’s final against United. Meanwhile, Chelsea, who last won a domestic trophy in 2018, will have to wait another season after failing to capitalize on their chances.
Mauricio Pochettino’s wait for silverware in England continues, adding to the disappointment for Chelsea, who were unable to punish City despite the efforts of Cole Palmer, who was a constant threat throughout the match.
