FG Declares May 1, Public Holiday

The Federal Government has announced that Wednesday, May 1st, will be a public holiday to observe this year’s Workers’ Day.

The announcement was made in a statement issued in Abuja by Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo, representing the Federal Government, emphasized the importance of excellence, efficiency, and fairness in all aspects of labour, reaffirming the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to promoting a culture of innovation, productivity, and inclusivity in the workplace.

He said; “In alignment with this year’s theme, which focuses on ensuring safety and health at work in a changing climate, I wish to state that the Federal Government remains steadfast in its resolve to prioritise the safety and well-being of all citizens.

“Let me reaffirm Mr. President’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for work, where every worker can thrive and contribute meaningfully to national development”.

Recognizing the valuable contribution of workers, he emphasized the need for proactive measures to address the negative impacts of climate change. This entails fostering collaboration in implementing sustainable practices and policies that enhance well-being in workplaces and contribute to nation-building based on principles of integrity, diligence, and compassion.

Additionally, the Minister encouraged Nigerians to stay dedicated to the current administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while extending warm wishes to workers for a joyful celebration.
