Naira Marley, Sam Larry Sue Magistrate, Police, Demand N40m

Singer Azeez Fashola, widely known as Naira Marley, and one of his associates, Samson Eletu, also recognized as Sam Larry, have initiated a fundamental rights lawsuit to contest their prolonged custody in connection with the demise of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Both Naira Marley and Sam Larry are individually seeking damages of N20 million from the police and Lagos Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun due to what they describe as their unjustified detention in police custody. They have brought the police and the Lagos magistrate to the Federal High Court in Lagos as defendants.

The magistrate had previously ordered their detention in police custody for 21 days in relation to the passing of 27-year-old Mohbad, who died in September.

However, their legal counsel, Olalekan Ojo (SAN), has informed Channels Television that the defendants are urging the court to declare that their ongoing detention at the Homicide Section of the Lagos State Police Command constitutes a violation of their rights since the 4th of October, 2023, as the originally ordered 21-day period has expired. They are requesting the court to issue an order for their immediate release.
