2027: I’ll Serve For One Term If I Get ADC Presidential Ticket~ Amaechi
Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged to serve just one term if chosen as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. Amaechi made this known during an interview on Thursday on Channels TV’s *Politics Today* with Seun Okinbaloye. He explained that his decision to limit himself to a single four-year term is aimed at promoting power balance between the north and south, noting that President Bola Tinubu, from the south, would have already served one term by then. “For now, the way Nigeria is, you must stick to that unwritten agreement that says south eight years, north eight years,” Amaechi, also a former Rivers State governor, said. “I led the fight against the PDP government because there was an agreement that the government at that time will spend four years and after four years the government reneged and I said ‘No, that would be unfair, that would be instability at its peak because the north will react’ so the best thing to do is to support a northern candidate to continue the balance of power, just like I will be among those saying to the north ‘The south must be allowed to complete their tenure.’” Asked by Mr Okinbaloye if he would be willing to serve a single term, Amaechi said: “Of course.” “Nigerians know that I speak my mind. Nigerians know that what I cannot do I will not say,” he added, when asked if Nigerians could trust him.

2027: Next President Should Come From South~ Amaechi
Former Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday called for Nigeria’s next president to come from the South, emphasizing that leadership should be driven by capacity, competence, and character rather than regional entitlement or dominance. In an interview on Channels Television, Amaechi described the upcoming 2027 general elections as a critical turning point for the country, framing it as a contest between “ordinary Nigerians and the entrenched political elite.” He urged citizens to rally behind a new national movement focused on equity, accountability, and genuine transformation. Reaffirming his position, the former Rivers State governor stressed that it is time for the South to lead again—based solely on merit. He said: “Nigeria belongs to all of us. We cannot sustain a democracy where one region dominates while others are locked out. The South has capable leaders. It’s time to restore balance and deliver real results. “This election is no longer about party loyalty. It is Nigerians versus the political elite. If you want change, real change, then it’s time to rise. The South is ready to lead. We’re building a platform that gives every Nigerian a voice, and hope.” The former Minister, who aligned with aligned with the African Democratic Congress, ADC, as part of a wider opposition coalition, also revealed that the coalition is pursuing registration of a new platform, the African Democratic Alliance, ADA, which he claims is being unfairly blocked by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. He said: “INEC is deliberately closing the political space to prevent credible alternatives like ADA from emerging. “The South has been sidelined for too long. We have leaders with experience and integrity. It’s time we take the lead again.” Highlighting his public service record, Amaechi recalled how he tackled insecurity within six months as Rivers Governor and prioritized education and rural development. He stated: “If I were president today, Nigerians would not be this hungry. I built schools in every village with computer access, created jobs through agricultural programs, and ensured transparency in spending. I’ve shown what’s possible with the right leadership.” While criticizing the All Progressives Congress, APC, for mismanaging the economy, he said: “This administration is worse than the previous one. People are hungry. Insecurity is rising. The cost of living is out of control. “This isn’t about me, it’s about Nigeria. Once the platform is in place, we’ll talk about who runs. But yes, I am ready and capable to lead this country.”

Ex~AGF, Malami Dumps APC, Joins ADC
Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, has formally resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Malami announced on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, that he has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), explaining that the party’s involvement in a new coalition dedicated to “rescuing Nigeria from further decline” motivated his move. He clarified that his decision was driven by patriotism rather than personal anger or political ambition. The statement of defection partly reads, ”My Fellow Nigerians, and the Good People of Kebbi State, After wide consultations and deep personal reflection, I hereby announce my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and my decision to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the party of choice for our coalition — a coalition driven by the urgent need to rescue our country from further decline. ”This is not a decision made out of anger or ambition, but one inspired by love for our nation and concern for the hardship our people are facing daily. ”Nigeria is bleeding. Insecurity has taken over our homes, especially in the North. Banditry, kidnappings, and terrorism have become part of our lives while the government prioritizes politics over the safety of its citizens. ”Our economy is in shambles. Prices of basic food items have tripled. The poor can no longer feed their families. Jobs are disappearing. Young people are hopeless. Instead of focusing on real solutions, the government is consumed by propaganda and political distractions. ”Governance has been abandoned. Appointments, projects, and policies are now guided by political loyalty and not national interest. I cannot remain part of a system that watches in silence as Nigerians suffer and die. ”This is why I am joining the ADC — a platform built on the values of justice, inclusion, competence, and national renewal. I believe that through this coalition and with the support of Nigerians, we can chart a new course for our beloved country. ”To the people of Kebbi State, I remain your son and servant. I will never abandon you. This move is to amplify your voice, protect your interests, and restore hope to our future. ”To every Nigerian, I urge you to join this movement. Let us rise above fear and reclaim our nation. Nigeria belongs to all of us.”

Crisis Looms As ADC Faction Rejects Adoption Of Party By Atiku~Led Coalition
A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the party’s adoption by the coalition of opposition politicians led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. In a statement, the factional national publicity secretary, Musa Isa Matara, accused the opposition politicians of attempting to hijack the party, insisting that the ADC is not a “private coalition platform.” He further noted that the party’s state executives, youth and women leaders, as well as ward coordinators, were not consulted in the discussions that led to the coalition’s decision. The statement read in part: “We warn those coming into the ADC as part of this imposed arrangement to tread carefully. Be mindful that some few individuals are attempting to sell out the soul of our party for personal gain. “The ADC is not for sale. It belongs to its members, not political merchants or elite dealmakers.” The faction’s statement followed the announcement that the coalition leaders have adopted the ADC as their political platform for the 2027 election and that former Senate President David Mark and former Governor of Osun State Rauf Aregbesola have been appointed as the party’s interim national chairman and national secretary, respectively. Recall that opposition politicians advocating for a coalition, together with some ADC leaders, convened in Abuja on Tuesday. The meeting, which brought together former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; ex-Senate President David Mark; former governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Liyel Imoke (Cross River); and former PDP national chairman Uche Secondus, led to the adoption of the ADC as the coalition’s platform for the 2027 elections. The coalition also named Bolaji Abdullahi, a former minister of sports, as its spokesperson. However, the ADC’s national publicity secretary has rejected this move, condemning it as a “hijack and imposition.” He further stated that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) did not ratify the recent appointments. The statement added: “The claim that the ADC has become the ‘platform of the National Opposition Coalition Group’ is misleading. “Our millions of members have not been informed or carried along in this so-called coalition. “If anyone is attempting to force an opposition merger without grassroots consent, they are trampling on democratic ethics and party sovereignty. The group warned those trooping into the party under a coalition arrangement to beware that the ADC has been “battling unresolved legal crises since the 2023 general elections.” “These matters remain in court and unresolved. Any coalition attempt built on such shaky legal ground is irresponsible and potentially self-destructive,” the faction stated.

Former Senate President David Mark Resigns From PDP
Former President of the Senate, David Mark, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). A founding member of the PDP, Mark stepped down after being appointed as one of the interim leaders of the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC). In a statement dated June 27 and personally signed, the former Senate President explained that he was leaving the PDP largely due to its ongoing leadership crisis. The statement read: “I bring warm greetings to you and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otukpo Ward 1, and by extension, to the entire Benue State and Nigeria. I write to formally inform you of my decision to resign my membership of the party with immediate effect. “You may recall that over the years, I have remained firm and deeply committed to the ideals of the PDP. Even when nearly all stakeholders departed the party following our loss in the 2015 presidential election, I pledged to remain the last man standing. “I have worked steadfastly to rebuild, reconcile, and reposition the party, efforts which, without sounding immodest, helped restore the PDP to national relevance and made it once again a party of choice for many Nigerians. “However, recent events marked by deepening divisions, persistent leadership crisis, and irreconcilable differences have reduced the party to a shadow of its former self, subjecting it to public ridicule. “After wide consultations with my family, friends, and political associates, I have resolved to join the National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in Nigeria, as part of the collective effort to rescue our nation and preserve our hard-earned democracy. Mark is one of the political figures that set up a coalition of opposition parties to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

2027: Atiku, David Mark, Others Dump PDP, Adopt Coalition
Key figures in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, former Senate President David Mark, and other prominent members, are reportedly set to leave the party. This was revealed in a communiqué issued after a meeting of Concerned PDP Leaders held in Abuja on Tuesday. As previously reported by DAILY POST, the party stalwarts had met behind closed doors to discuss the ongoing crisis rocking the main opposition party and explore possible solutions. Also in attendance were former governors Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Babangida Aliyu (Niger), Liyel Imoke (Cross River), Sam Egwu (Ebonyi), and other senior party leaders. The concerned leaders lamented that the All Progressives Congress, APC, government, which “came into being on the false and evil propaganda, to save Nigeria from PDP is now a disaster to our nation and therefore must be voted out of power.” According to them, “all indices of development that support the comfort and quality of lives of the citizens have collapsed, and life is now hell in Nigeria.” The opposition leaders expressed regret that PDP, “which is organic with the discipline, capacity, and history to lead and save Nigeria, is now a shadow of its old self,” stressing that “the heatwave unleashed by the APC Federal Government through threats, blackmail and patronage has forced elected officers in government to abandon the PDP.” They called on all well-meaning PDP “members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition.”
